PTO Meeting

February 6, 2014

President Abby Crock called the meeting to order at 7:00 by leading the recitation of the pledge.  Present were officers Alicia Warren, Jodie Casteel, and Mary Pangle, principal Mrs. Johnson, teachers Janet Powers, Mindy Theobald, Audrey Cordray, and Janet Crum, and two additional parents.

The minutes of the January meeting were read.  Mindy Theobald made a motion to approve and Kristen Long seconded.  The minutes stand approved.

Alicia reported that PTO paid $700 to the author Rick Sowash for Right to Read week and $101.14 to the Best Western for his room.  The cost of the paint for the Christmas parade was $101.14.  Audrey made a motion to approve the report and Stacy Lowe seconded.

Stacy Lowe reported that she is counting and recording the box tops now.  Mrs. Shafer won for the month of January.  Jodie will send then in by March 1st.

The Father Daughter Dance is scheduled for February 7 and will be held even if there is no school.  Mr. Cook will make an announcement on the phone when he calls about school.  Abby reported that she borrowed a backdrop from Tiffany Gray for the pictures, and  Jodie will take pictures.  We still need donations of cookies.  The DJ will set up at 4:00 and we will decorate then, also.

The Spring Fling will be Friday, March 14, from 5:00 to 9:00.  Jodie wants to set up the Country Store on Thursday night.  Alicia reported that she has spent $309 for prizes so far and still plans to buy some bigger things.  Tiffany Speck and Laura McComb are doing the Art Walk, and should tell students soon so that they can begin planning for that event.  Abby will find some prizes for the raffle ticket and Mary will get them out by the beginning of March.

A Mother/Son event was discussed.  We do need suggestions for this.  Some ideas include a dodge-ball game, a corn hole tournament, and a Mother/Son Mix-Up (offering several different games).  The date for this will be Friday, April 4, from 6:00 to 8:00.  Abby will decide at a later date what it will be.

We still want to plan an end of the year event, such as a 5K or 1 Mile Fun Run.  This could be held as soon as school is over.

Janet Powers made a motion to adjourn.  Alicia seconded.

The next meeting will be Thursday, March 6, at 3:30.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Pangle
