PTO Meeting
May 3, 2012
President Janet Powers called the 7:00 meeting to order. Present were officers Abby Crock and Mary Pangle. Also present were teacher Judy Brown, Mr. Phillips, and three additional parents.
The minutes of the April meeting were read. Abby made a motion to approve and Judy seconded it. The minutes stand approved.
Alicia was unable to be present but sent a report. Money from the sale of Redskin items has been deposited but Alicia has not yet paid written the check to Peyton Enterprises. The items should be here on Monday and Abby will be here on Tuesday to help pass them out. We will plan to try this again next year.
Ryan Moore did some landscaping work around the school and gave PTO a bill for $200 for mulch. Abby said that in the future Crocks would donate mulch for school use. Right now we need to do some work around the outdoor classroom and we can request mulch when needed.
The rug for the band room was ordered from Murphy’s in Caldwell and has been delivered. The bill, including tax, is $272.85. We will let Jeff Croucher pay it and then PTO will pay him so that we do not need to pay the $17.85 in sales tax.
Janet reminded us that the election of officers will be in September and new officers will preside at the October meeting. Copies of the by-laws were given to those present.
The Flea Market is scheduled for Saturday, May 5. Mr. Phillips will take care of having tables near the front door and getting the front door unlocked. He made an all-call to remind the families about it.
It was suggested that Caldwell PTO should have a Facebook page. Facebook use is discouraged at school but PTO is separate from the school with a separate treasury and its use could be beneficial for us. Mr. Phillips said that he had no problem with the plan but stressed that only positive postings will be allowed. Pictures of students will also be forbidden and only pictures without people will be posted. They plan to start small and add to it in small steps. Jodie Casteel and Abby will be co-administrators.
The concessions at junior-high football games were discussed. We will continue to do this, but we will need more help in the future. Games are usually on Thursday evenings, and there will be 5 or 6 games.
Judy Brown reported that an Open House for the 2012-2013 school year is being planned by the climate committee. PTO will wait until their plans are made and then see if we can be of assistance.
It was suggested that PTO become more involved in the Kindergarten orientation that will be held a few days before the beginning of school. This would be a chance to inspire some young parents to become active members who will support PTO. A welcome committee will be formed that could include balloons, banners, (Class of 2025), etc. The committee will meet on August 2 to make our final plans.
Mandy Yurco made a motion to adjourn and Jodie seconded.
Mrs. Brown’s class won a treat for having the most representatives present.
Our next regular meeting will be September 6, 2012, at 7:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Pangle
Secretary
